QUEEN ST KITCHEN REMODEL

This kitchen renovation in Glenside, PA transformed a secluded galley kitchen into an open, functional gathering space while preserving the timeless character of this nearly 100-year-old home. Before the renovation, the kitchen felt closed off from the rest of the first floor and lacked the flow and functionality the homeowners needed for everyday living.

To completely reimagine the layout, we removed the wall between the kitchen and living room and installed a structural beam, dramatically improving openness, sightlines, and natural flow throughout the home. The result is a much brighter and more connected first floor that still feels authentic to the home’s original architecture.

One of the standout features of this project was preserving and reconstructing part of the original brick chimney and thoughtfully incorporating it into the new kitchen design. The exposed brick became a natural focal point, adding warmth, texture, and historic charm to the updated space.

A major challenge during the design process was creating a functional mudroom or drop zone within a first floor that had no obvious location for one. After exploring multiple options, we designed tall pantry-style cabinetry that seamlessly blends into the kitchen while discreetly functioning as storage for coats, shoes, backpacks, and everyday items. This creative solution gave the homeowners much-needed organization without sacrificing space or aesthetics.

The finished kitchen features beautifully crafted cabinetry, a farmhouse sink, Wolf range, tile flooring, updated lighting, warm wood accents, and a new back door that ties the renovation together.
