This Abington, PA renovation transformed a tight, disconnected kitchen into an open first-floor living space designed for cooking, entertaining, and everyday family life. The original kitchen was tucked in the back of the home, while the dining room sat in the center, creating a chopped-up layout with poor flow.
We removed the wall between the dining room and kitchen and relocated the kitchen to the center of the home, creating a large island with seating, improved sightlines into the living room, and a much more functional layout. A challenging side bay window was replaced with a large picture window, allowing us to place the range in that location and create a beautiful cooking wall with open shelving, a custom hood detail, and the brick chimney as a warm focal point.
At the rear of the home, we opened the back wall and installed a large sliding glass door leading to the new screened porch. The porch was built with an elevated deck and roof structure, featuring a beadboard hip ceiling, a fireplace with TV above, an infrared heater, a ceiling fan, and wide screened openings that bring in natural light and outdoor views.
Below the screened porch, we installed TimberTech DrySpace to keep the lower patio dry, turning the basement walkout area into a second covered outdoor living space with a stone wall, TV, seating area, and protection from the weather.
This project created a seamless connection between the kitchen, living room, screened porch, and lower patio—giving the homeowners multiple inviting spaces to gather, relax, and entertain.
