HECKLER HOLLOW PRIMARY SUITE & HOME ADDITION

This large-scale home addition transformed the functionality of this family home while creating a comfortable multigenerational living arrangement designed for long-term flexibility. The project centered around building a spacious new primary suite addition on the rear of the home, allowing the original homeowners to move into a first-floor suite while their daughter and her family occupied the remainder of the house. The result is a home that keeps multiple generations together while still providing privacy, comfort, and independence.

To create the new layout, we extended the rear family room by eight feet using a large structural steel beam, dramatically opening the living space and increasing natural light. Skylights and additional windows were added to brighten the expanded family room, creating an airy, welcoming gathering space with custom window bench seating surrounding the fireplace.

Beyond the family room addition, we built a spacious primary suite featuring vaulted ceilings, large windows, and wide-open floor space. The new primary bathroom was designed with a luxurious walk-in shower, oversized double vanity, heated towel warmer, vaulted ceiling, and skylight that fills the space with natural light. Adjacent to the suite, the new walk-in closet includes extensive custom storage, a large center island, and another skylight to keep the room bright and functional.

A second addition was constructed along the driveway side of the home to solve another major issue: the original laundry room was extremely small and lacked organization. The new addition created a much larger mudroom and laundry area with custom built-in storage, bench seating, cubbies, and improved functionality for a busy multigenerational household.

Outside, the project included a large new patio area and extensive underground drainage work to protect the brand-new full basement constructed beneath the addition. Proper water management and drainage planning were critical components of the project to ensure the long-term performance of both the addition and outdoor living areas.
